Shanghai Watch 上海手表 / Limited Edition
Resurrecting a forgotten Shanghai brand in the style of a 21st century city.
For decades, China’s best timepieces were crafted by Shanghai Watch Co. 上海钟表厂 and worn by the likes of Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping and Zhou Enlai. But the iconic watches had fallen from their decades long reign, forgotten by a younger generation in the middle of the world’s fastest growing economy and a massive shift in culture.
We set out to resurrect the brand for a new generation by reimagining the the historic Shanghai Watch Co. design through the lens of burgeoning Shanghai street culture. In a joint collaboration between W+K Shanghai and design collective Jellymon, we created a limited edition of five Shanghai Watch designs sold through luxury and streetwear retailers like Colette in Paris, Kid Robot in New York, Source and O'blu in Shanghai.
